Beautiful Day for a Field Trip

Good Morning Friends,

 Just wanted to share a couple pictures from the field trip the kids and I took yesterday.
We have been studying Abraham Lincoln, and made plans to visit his birthplace in Hodgenville,Ky as we wrapped up our studies. Ed unfortunately had to leave town and had to miss our field trip. I was going to reschedule for another date when he was home, but Anna was so upset I decided we  would go without him!

It was a beautiful day, and the kids were excited to  get on the road. Anna helped make our bag lunches, and get the boys moving so we could start our fun.

After watching a short video in the visitor center we  headed out to go see the log cabin and sinking springs. I told the boys they better wait for their sister and they did exactly what I knew they would...Ran!

Poor Anna, she always wants to be where her brothers are, and they like to hear her scream. Well they weren't going to lose her that easily...she took off in pursuit!

              There they are! Yes, you can tell by the look on Jordon's face that he thought it was funny.

Unfortunately for us the log cabin is undergoing renovations and closed to the public at this time, so the kids were not able to see it. We headed down to the sinking springs.

It was amazing to feel the drop in temperature as you descended down the stairs.

It was a very warm day and a bit torturous to see and hear this lovely spring water and not be able to take a drink! ;-)

 Ryan spotted a craw dad in the bottom pool of the springs! That thing was big. I don't think I have ever seen one that big, and leave it to a boy to notice it!

We walked around looking at the flora & fauna, and enjoyed imagining life on "The Sinking Spring Farm" 200 years ago when Abraham Lincoln was born.

He was only three when the family left their Hodgenville homestead and moved to Knob Creek, but I imagine he drank plenty of water from those springs and enjoyed running through the same fields we were walking as a carefree young boy!

Non-Update Update! ;-)

Hello Blog Friends,

I am way over due for an update, but the problem is I have very little to update. We have done very little with the kitchen remodel. This is Ed's busy time of the year with his job and the traveling is pretty much non-stop through out the spring and summer months. We have been busy trying to get the vegetable garden in, get the pool opened up and doing general yard work, so any time he has at home is busy doing those things.

 I myself have been enjoying my new found freedom. The little ones and I have been enjoying spending so much more time together doing the things that really matter...making memories!

 I ordered a flush mount ceiling light for the kitchen sitting area back in January and that has finally come in...along with a some wall sconces that I ordered too. I'll take a couple pictures so you all can see how much better it looks then that gaping hole in the ceiling! ;-)  The sconces are still in the box waiting for me to decide where I am going to use them. I know two will be going above the fireplace but the others I am unsure where I will be using them. I actually have way more sconces then I need, so I probably will be selling some of them. If anybody is interested let me know... ;-)

Oh, I have made some changes to the kitchen remodel too. Poor Ed!!! If he was smart he would get this kitchen finished so I could no longer make changes! ;-)  There are two areas that are not finished that we built temporary pieces for. The island and bake center! My stove top sits in the island right now, but I have decided I would rather have it over against the wall where the bake center is suppose to go! I won't have a bake center, but not hyaving the stove top in the island will open that up and give me not only a bigger work area, but also more seating!

I've been doing a bit of tweaking and rearranging the last week and thought I would share a few photos with you all on what I have changed/moved!

This little cupboard in my dining room had just my stoneware lamp on it, which I moved and then added the old books, firkin and mirror on the wall...not sure if I like the lamp there or not!?

       







I moved all my pewter from the red slanted cupboard to my antique cupboard in the dining room. This I like very much!

I had the hardest time decorating the red cupboard after I took all the pewter out. It is okay, but I am not thrilled with it. I'm sure I'll be doing some more tweaking with it!

Well that is about it folks. I gotta get scooting and take Ed to the airport. I hope you all enjoy your day. Suppose to be sunny and 84 here today. I know I'll be outside doing something later on when I get back from the airport and get everything done inside.

Changes

Hello Friends,

Long time, no blog! ;-)

What a busy past 3 weeks we have had. I mentioned my sister & Mom coming for a visit in my last post, and then us going up to Maine for a week. What I didn't mention was the reason for the visit. Well my Mom & sister never need a reason to visit, but this visit was really not planned and more of a spur of the moment thing.

My sister was layed off work after 24 years in the medical field, and as she was struggling with what she was going to do for income I was struggling with my business and if I wanted to continue with it. My business has been an unbelievable blessing to me and something I built up over the past 4 years. I loved doing it, but struggled with the time it took away from my home and family. I have always been family orientated and prided myself on always being a SAHM and available to my children & husband 24/7, but the business changed that! I kept thinking it would all eventually balance out, and not take as much of my time, but the business kept growing and expanding to the point that I realized I couldn't do both and I was sacrificing the one thing I never thought I would! My children. :(

The timing could not have been more perfect. When Lisa told me she was getting layed-off and not sure what she was going to do. I knew the answer! Ed & I talked about it and mulled it over for about a week and then I casually asked her in one of our many conversations if she was interested in taking over my business. She was, and the rest is history!  We immediately made plans for her to come down to Ky to learn the business, and then Ed and I drove everything up to Maine and helped her set up shop! We all have had a great time over the past two weeks, and now we are back home in Ky, and "Palmer Falls Primitive" now resides in Gorham, Maine! I know Lisa will continue to grow the business as I have done these past 4 years, and I know without a doubt she will continue to produce the quality signs and furniture that Palmer Falls has become known for!
May her new venture be a blessing to her and her beautiful family. I love ya Sis! ;-)

Now there is noway my sister and I are going to get together and not do some prim & antique shopping.
She took me to a great prim shop in Buxton, ME called "The Mustard House", and I picked myself up a few treasures.

Ed & I headed to NY after our stay in Maine so we could see some of our family and visit my grandma! Grandma is 97 years old and the best Grandma anyone could ask for. When Mom was down in Ky we got a phone call that Grama wasn't doing well, and her time may be short, so I thought it a perfect opportunity to go see her while we were up that way. I am so glad that we did! Isn't she the cutest!? I love you Gramma!

Since being back home in Ky we have been busy with our kids and their birthdays, baseball practice and the beautiful weather...which we have taken advantage of. We have the vegetable garden all tilled, composted, and ready for planting... which we did a bit of today. The greenbeans are in as well as the squash and cantalope.
I started the seeds before we left for Maine and they are doing stupendous! I'll probably get some more in while Ed is away next week. I love working in the garden, and I have my little helper too!

Yesterday was my oldest daughter Megan's Birthday, so we spent the day at Saunders Springs having a BBQ and enjoying the weather.

Hard to believe my baby is now 19 years old. What an unbelievable blessing she has been to raise. A beautiful young women both outside and inside. I love you angle face!

Thats about it for today my friends. No updates on the remodel because there have been none! ;-)
 Hopefully when Ed returns from this trip we will be getting that kitchen finished up! I hope so. With summer fast approaching there is so much we want to get to outside, and I am so looking forward to all the things we have planned. Now that I don't have a large part of my time tied up with the business I may actually get to all those things I have been putting off for years! I feel like a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders and I am excited about the changes this decision will bring into our lives.


Oh, I almost forgot that when Lisa showed up in my driveway she came with a gift for her big sister!
I have two antique jugs from a stoneware co. in Ft. Edward, NY...a town close to where we grew up. I have a 1 & 2 gal, and have been searching for a 3 gal. My sweet dear sister gave me her 3 gal. jug! Isn't she the greatest!?

Goodies From Trade Show!

Good Saturday Afternoon Friends!

What a beautiful Saturday we are having! It is sunny and just about 60 degrees out, but unfortunately I am stuck in the house cleaning.

It has been a week since my last update, and what a busy week it has been. Ed and I had a absolutely wonderful time at The Offerings Cash & Carry Show, and I have some pics to share with you all of some of the things we purchased for both ourselves and the website. I got 4 pieces from Doug of Olde Tyme Sales. He does beautiful work and has some really unique pieces. Here are 2 of the pieces in the dining room along with a taller cupboard we purchased from "The Settlement Trading Co.

Love this hanging cupboard with the rough sewn edge, and lumpy finish on the interior section.

The Pie Safe is my absolute favorite piece if that is even possible! ;-)  How do you even pick a favorite? I love all my pieces obviously, or I wouldn't buy them! lol!

The two  pieces together, and I didn't buy them with the intentions of displaying them together, but when something comes together and works... well, why mess with perfection!

This taller cupboard is from "The Olde Settlement Co". I did buy two. This one and another done in a brown color.

This is another item from Doug at Olde Tyme Sales! Isn't it just wonderful?! Anna has fallen in love with this rocker, and I had no room for it, so I have actually moved my desk from the kitchen and made room for this in there. :-)

Last two pictures are a couple wood candle sconces I grabbed. Love them booth!

After we did our stint at the show we headed about 30 minutes north of Columbus and stopped at Delaware, OH so I could see "The Seraph" with my very own eyes. I have been drooling over this place for a couple years on the web, and to see it all in person was just so...yummy!!! I bought a throw rug and a swag curtain for my dining room window at The Seraph! I have taken so many pics, but with the light coming in the window I just can't get a good one. We plan on adding bottom shutters to this winow so I just wanted a simple swag for the top and this fit the bill perfectly!

After leaving there we headed back toward home, and swung by and stopped at "North Shore Primitives"...Wow!!! This place was great! So much to see and drool over. I did buy myself a little treasure! I feel in love with this guy.

We got home late Saturday night, and we then spent the next 3 days filling orders and trying to get the house ready for out of town guest. My cousin and her husband from NY came for a little visit. We had a wonderful time with them both, and only wish their visit could have been longer. We took them to Glendale for a little Prim/Antique shopping and I got this little darling!

Is she too stinking cute or what?!

They left yesterday morning, and my sister Lisa and Mom are due to arrive later this evening from Maine & NY, so I have been busy cleaning again. Mom and Sis will be here a week, and then we are following them back up to Maine and will stay there for about a week, so the next couple of weeks are going to be crazy, and I probably will find little time for blogging. Hopefully after we get back from Maine we can get the last bit of the kitchen finished and done, which I of course will be sharing with my blog friends!

One quick last picture is a x-stitch I finished up a couple weeks ago and forgot to post. This was done using a wonderful pattern from Stacy Nash! It is suppose to have a longer loop on it to hang around your neck to hold scissors, but I wanted it to hang on a cupboard so I shortened it up.
