Kitchen Floors Done & Grills In The Windows!

Happy FRIDAY Friends,

And what a glorious Friday it is going to be! Lots of sun with temps in the 70's. Woo Hoo bring it on. Ed and I are leaving this afternoon for Ohio to attend the Offerings Handcrafted Marketplace Cash & Carry Show! I am excited about going to the show and getting away with my wonderful hubby for a few days.

It has been a couple weeks since I posted so I thought I would give you all a quick update about the kitchen, and show you a few pictures! Ed has been in and out the last few weeks, but we did manage to get the floors finished and I love them!
We spent just about 3 days sanding, staining and polying the floors. We of course had to move everything out of the kitchen including that monstrous Island...a big job to say the least, but oh so worth it!

I hope you can get an idea of the finished floors from the pictures. I'll have to get some better pictures of the floors and the window grills when I have more time to fiddle around with this camera!

We did the kitchen floors the same as we did the dining room. We used 1"X8" pine boards, biscuit joined them to one another and screwed them into the sub-floor. Counter sunk the screws and plugged them with wood buttons. One coat of "Early American" Minwax stain, and then 3 coats of poly.

I tried getting some shots of the window grills, but didn't have much luck, but you can get an idea of how much better the windows look with the grills in verses without them.

Well I need to get moving and get my bags packed. I hope you all have a very blessed weekend, and if you are having warm temps and sunshine this weekend, get out there and enjoy yourselves!

  1. Can you say "BEAUTIFUL"!! I think your floors are breathtaking. What a fantastic job you did on them. You should be more than proud of youself! What a difference the grills made in your windows. Funny how small changes can have such an impact on the outcome. I so look forward to seeing more pictures!
Enjoy your Time in Ohio. We are to have a little rain on Sunday I think.

  4. Also one quick question...
Your chair in the background, I think it is a Johnston Benchworks wing back.
I was wondering if you remember the "style" it was.
Im looking in to buying one. And the style I picked out is "Miller Falls". It is hard to tell from the catalog what they really look like.

Im wanting one in the style like yours, with the wide slanted sides.
If you dont mind and if you remember, can you LMK the "style" of your wing back?
Hope this message made sense. :)
    Thanks so much,
    Tam

  5. Your floors are gorgeous!!! I so would like some like that. A couple of years ago when we recarpeted, we saw what our floors were like. They were 1" wide oak laid at an angle. While pretty for some, it isn't my taste. We just do carpet and wood laminate in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing your pics. Have a wonderful get away!!

  17. Kim, The floors are so perfect. I just love wood in home decor. My friend was telling me about a new window grill.I think it has different designs on the borders of the grills. Did you see them when you were looking for yours?
