Needed a new end table!!

Hi Friends,

It is getting colder here in Kentucky! We started our first fire in the wood stove to take a bit of the chill off! I have been putting it off as long as I could. I love heating with wood, but I usually am in no hurry to start. Ed on the other hand is ready to start fires as soon as the temps dip below 70 degrees. :-)

Well Ed is away right now, and I decided I needed a new end table for one end of the sofa in the family room, so I did what any self-respecting, self taught crafter would do... I made it myself!!! Now normally I leave all the furniture making up to Ed, but when I decide I need something, well I need it right then and there! Is anybody else like that?
Ed is going to be gone for another 2 weeks, and there was no way I was waiting that long to make a new end table. I can't really buy any wood furniture. I mean I do from time to time, but then I have to hear about how "He" could have made it for me, so I have learned to be patient enough, and wait for him to build me something I have seen, and just have to have!

I figured I could tackle the job of the end table, and knew exactly what I wanted it to look like, and plus Ed just bought a pneumatic nailer, and I was dieing to get my hands on it. ;-) I had Ryan help me hold the boards while we glued and nailed the pieces together that I had all cut out. It is a pretty simple design, and it went together like a charm. I painted the bottom lamp black, and stained the top of it. It is far from perfect, and I know Ed would have done a much better job if I could have just waited for him, but I must say I am very pleased with how it turned out, and thought I would share it with you all.

Well that's about it! Just wanted to real quick share my end table with you all. I need to finish my cleaning. I got the whole downstairs done, so now I can head upstairs and tackle that.
Thanks for looking, stay warm and have a blessed day!

  6. You certainly made yourself a beautiful end table, Kim. I love the look (as well as the functionality) of it. Well done!

I hope you'll enjoy the maple butter recipe too. It's a real favorite around here once the weather gets cold. Which it has here in Maine this week for sure. Yikes!

    Have a lovely weekend...

  11. No chance of that, Beth. I would much rather have him build the furniture! He is better at it, and we usually do it as a joint effort. He builds... I do all the finishing. We usually have a good time doing it together too!

  14. Looks great!! I love it!! I too will go out in the garage and make things for myself. I actually taught my hubby a lot about woodworking.. he he he... When he first met me he saw me sanding up a fresh painted cabinet.. he almost fell over. "What are you doing???" he said. I explained that what I was doing and he just shook his head. When I was finished he was in love with the primitive finish we all love and know.

OK sorry I hijacked your post with my story. I really LOVE your end table.

  16. I get impatient too because Dear Hubby can't get furniture built fast enough for me. He is not gone at night like Ed but he does work very long hours each day (like 12 to 16 per day). The last thing I want to do after a day like that is bombard him with a list of stuff I need! But unlike you, I am not good with wood. I have tried and tried and it just never even comes out close. So I have to wait.....

    Great job!

  17. Hi Kim!....the table you made looks great!....I had to laugh when you said that if you buy a piece of wood furniture you have to listen about how your husband could have made that etc etc because mine does the same thing! LOL....have a lovely day!
